Default where and what to jig?

I am searching the internet looking for which jigs to purchase to set up a reasonable collection and have some chance of catching fish? I will be jigging inwaters 60-120 mts with a pe8 rod and 80 lb braid. often the current where i will fish is from 4-6 knots. type of fish kingies, mahi-mahi and "others" as I have not fished here in this form before. Any suggestions to types of jigs, brands, shapes and weights? hanks Webby

Welcome to the forum.

fishing in 60-120m waters with 4-6kt currents will be tough to effectively drop the jig to the fish, the boat will be drifting fast and the PE8 will not help either.

I would suggest using PE5 or 6 to start. As for jigs, try to get bottom heavy jigs with less flutter, this will help you get to the "zone". I would choose a 300g jig to fish in that condition.

Some jigs that might be suitable - Smith Jack Knife R, FC Labo SL Jig, Fisherman AG Pokey, Fisherman Shotgun.

Hope this helps.

Randy

For the braid try the "Spider Wire Stealth". (35°/°° for 112 lbs...) It's better than other numerous braids...

Default rod and line choice

i have started withg a Wilson venom rated pe 5-10 and thought 8 was a good starting point. i have 2 spools for my reel so could purchase pe5 or lighter as wel. i am not sure if the rod will go any lighter than pe5. the rod is rated from 250 - 550 gram jigs. it is very tip[y but with 45 kg dead lift. i am hoping it will cover a lot of bases? if i were to ppurchase another rod for lighter options any suggestions? i have a torium 16 that could do for a while?

hi, try the sevenseas pro shop in bangkok. they carry a good range of jigging and popping gear and prices are very cheap. better than singapore IMO.
hope this helps.

well id go with a pe 5 or 50 lb pp, use jigs like a jm rocket jig. something heavy in the ass to get straight down. of course you need to adjust the drift but ass heavy jigs will help

I think I have found "the" rod. Wilson venom 50-130 and I am fishing 80 lb braid. What do you think?
