My experience jigging a 6 knot drift, to the bottom with 60 meters.... maybe...... with 600gr or more jig,120 meters not likely to the bottom of the water colum.... 4 knots is already a very fast drift, more than I will take the time to work. I regularly fish deep ,100 - 200 meters, anything more than 2.5 knots ... well it's not for me as 700 gr- 1 kilo needed...... PE # 5 is all you need, , remember the higher the line is rated the thicker the line is and the more the current will carry the line off a vertical plane.
My 2 cents worth

Hi,

Regarding where to jig, Maldives has been excellent for jigging over the past 2 or 3 years. Catch rates average more than 10 hookups per head per day on our trips. If you want to have a look at the catch reports, I have collated them on facebook fan page. Do a search for Nooraanee2.

We usually have either PE6 or PE8, and jigs about 200-350g not more than that. Sometimes anglers put in wire leaders because of barracudas.

cheers
Ahmed

Question Next trip? Where to ?

I fished Thailand. Phuket and Patong but it is very hard, nearly impossible to arrange jigging here. Tourist centres know nothing about fishing. Only the cost! More cost is Bigger boat as far as they are concerned. Itried to book several charters without success. I caught some fish....happy just to wet a line and tried to find fishing tackles stores that sell quality gear. lots of junk and cheap but no quality and when they had some i was always sceptical if it was a copy. Next time I am going to be more organised before i leave here. Would I go back to Thailand fishing.....better places to wet a line but good family holiday. great suntan though. Now this brings me to the next trip. Maybe Kenya? Any suggestions? Thanks. Webby
